Bear woke up from his long winter nap and saw the birds returning from their time away. He strolled through is familiar forest he called home, appreciating its beauty. But this spring was different.
He overheard the birds chattering about their travels and wondered what it would be like. He had always been in these woods since he was a cub; it was all he knew. He thought, maybe I should try traveling too.
Bear went back to his den to gather snacks for the journey (blueberries were his favorite) and bundled them up. He attached his snack bundle to a stick and hoisted it over his shoulder. It was a little heavy, but he was a bear! He needed a lot of snacks.
After walking for about 15 minutes, Bear sat down. This traveling was exhausting! He thought it might be a good time for a nap and a snack. He tried to preserve a few berries for the journey ahead yet and wrapped up what was left. Bear decided that now was not time for a nap, as it didn't seem like the thing to do when he hadn't yet seen anything new!
He wandered on to the edge of the forest, which took a better part of the day. When he arrived, his berry bag was empty. He looked out across the rolling fields that greeted him and spent time basking in the warm sunshine. Bear admired the beauty of what was beyond the forest, but he thought his home was far more beautiful.
Bear gathered up brush to make a bed and slept. He woke in the morning, gathered some more blueberries, and decided to set off back home. Maybe traveling wasn't for Bear. He liked his naps and snacks and was no longer very interested in what was beyond the forest. Nothing was better than home.
