Mishiikenh Minis means ""Turtle Island"" in Anishinaabemowin, the language of the original people in the Great Lakes area. It is what we call North America and connects to a well known story about how this land came to be. I chose to depict a small snapping turtle as the first of my art pieces to be shown in another country as a way of introduction of myself and where I am from. I have never worked this small before but I enjoy knowing each person who gets one of my prints carries a piece of my home and my people with them. Miigwetch! (Thank you)
