Title: Ta-da … (Ans Vianen, NL) This linocut shows a jack-in-the-box moment, a little devil pops out via a spring: the classic “ta-da” moment: here I am! This moment is exactly the core of what all my work is about. You are allowed to be who you are, without judgement from others.And when you see my linocut, feel free to smile. I love humor in my work. It doesn't have to be perfect, as long as it stirs up some feeling. The choice of linocut fits well with this idea. Cutting in linocut is a direct and irreversible process, in which every line is a decision. That physical act and the contrast between black and white enhance the expression of the image and leave little room for nuance — just like the sudden “ta-da” moment itself. It is what it is. Because the linocuts are printed by hand, you will always have to deal with small variations and visible imperfections. It is precisely those traces of the making process that make each copy unique and emphasize the human aspect behind the printed image. Ta-da …
