This work is in response to the insidious creep of the wilding pines - introduced species from the pine family that are proliferating across the landscape of Aotearoa/ New Zealand. Popular in the forestry industry, these species often do very well in their introduced climate. Winds blow thousands of seeds distances of many kilometres, where if left unchecked these wilding pines populate the tussock lands and hillsides, smothering farmland, overtaking native species, sucking moisture from the ground and changing the soil. These plants replace natives which would provide food for birds and insects of Aotearoa. They provide perfect fuel for wildfires and change the vegetative look of the landscape of this island nation. Increased sediment and slash related flooding effects waterways. I hope this is a reminder that we can leave a better legacy for future generations than a denigrated landscape. A legacy for birds and insects as well as the children. https://www.instagram.com/p/C2VNdK5Pkzf/?img_index=1
